TROON, Scotland (AP) — Tiger Woods had another tough day and his season came to an end on Friday at The Open after failing to make the cut for the third consecutive major. The 48-year-old veteran carded rounds of 79 on Thursday and 77 on Friday, with a total of 14 strokes over par, far from the cut that will allow all players at +6 or better to compete in the Saturday and Sunday rounds.

In April, Woods set a record at the Masters by making the cut at Augusta 24 times in a row. That was the last tournament this year —out of the five he played— where he made it to the weekend.

From the first holes, Tiger showed that he was never in contention to make the cut. In today's round he had five bogeys, a double bogey (on the 2nd hole) and just one birdie.
Why did Tiger Woods' season end so early?
Woods is dealing with a lot of physical complications from sports injuries and a car accident, so he had already announced that he would focus primarily on the four majors in 2024: at the Masters he made the cut, but then missed the weekend at the PGA Championship, the US Open, and now at the Open.
Anyway, on the positive side, this is the first time since 2019 that he competes in all four majors in a season.
His next competitions will be in December, but at unofficial tournaments: the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, organized by Tiger, and the PNC Championship with his son.
What will he do in 2025? It is still unknown, but for having won tournaments at some point in his career, he will be invited for life to the Masters and the PGA Championship, and up to the age of 60 to the British Open. In the case of the US Open, it does not establish this type of exceptions, and without the necessary ranking, he will have to opt for a special invitation like this year.
Who is the leader of the Open after two rounds?
Shane Lowry, who already won in 2019, is leading by two strokes (with a total score of 7 under par) after two rounds at Royal Troon, southwest of Glasgow.
Lowry took what seemed like an eternity to get a double bogey on the 11th hole. He recovered with two birdies in the last three holes to sign off a second round of 69 strokes. He is followed by two English golfers, both five under par: Daniel Brown and Justin Rose.
