In the photographs, you can see both protagonists facing each other in a tough battle in the fighting arena, using the characteristic costumes and weapons of ancient Roman gladiators.
For now, the first unpublished records show us the characters played by Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal. The Irish actor, Mescal, will bring to life Lucius, the nephew of Emperor Commodus and, therefore, a noble-born warrior who has grown in the shadows of Maximus.
On the other hand, the actor known for his role in "The Last of Us" and "Game of Thrones" will embody another protagonist in the sequel: the Roman general Marco Acacius, who trained as an apprentice under Maximus' orders. In the words of director Ridley Scott, Acacius is "a man deeply regretful of his life and not knowing what to do with it."
“Please, don’t die”
Pedro Pascal took the opportunity to share the unseen Vanity Fair records on his personal Instagram account Pascalispunk. In particular, the actor chose to publish the sequence of photographs where he can be seen facing Lucius in the Colosseum arena: "Uh. Oh," he wrote in the post.
As expected, within a few minutes, it sparked the excitement of his followers, who quickly left hundreds of comments, showing their anticipation for the release of the "movie of the year." "This is going to be epic," "I'm excited," "I can't wait to see it."
But that's not all that caught attention. Among the comments, some particular requests from fans stood out, indicating: " "Please, don't die" and "I think I speak for everyone when I kindly ask you not to die even once" and "Don't end up like Oberyn, please".
The truth is, these suggestions have to do with the memorable death of Prince Oberyn Martell, played by Pedro Pascal, in the series Game of Thrones. Martell dies in a death match, where he faces "The Mountain," who crushes his thumbs against his eyes and smashes his head.
"We all know how your last time in the arena ended," "He doesn't have a good track record in this type of fights", were other comments referring to his death in GOT.
Gladiator 2 will premiere on November 22, 2024, and promises to be a worthy sequel to its predecessor film. In the words of Pedro Pascal, "This movie has an identity shaped by its legacy (Maximus). It wouldn't make sense if it didn't."
