The former president fractured his hip after falling in his bedroom, according to his daughter, who also stated from the clinic in Lima where the ex-president was admitted that her father needs a surgical operation.

Keiko Fujimori's explanation

"He is taking anticoagulants due to his heart problem and we have to wait a few days for these anticoagulants to pass their effect before he can proceed to have surgery. This surgery involves placing a complete prosthesis on the left side and then we will wait for him to recover," Keiko Fujimori told the press.

It is a long and risky operation due to the diseases my father has, and the therapies have weakened him a lot.

"It is a long and risky operation due to the illnesses that my father has, and the therapies have weakened him a lot. He is stable," he added.

Fujimori was sentenced in 2009 by the Judiciary for massacres and corruption cases during his government (1990-2000), but he has been free since December of last year due to a pardon granted to him by former president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski in 2017, endorsed by an order of the Peruvian Constitutional Court, despite the objections raised by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).

On July 28th, Fujimori will turn 86 years old. His daughter Keiko leads the conservative party Fuerza Popular. Recently, her father announced that he was joining that political group, which considers him its historical leader.
